Scarlet Hill Farm

The Quality to BE it
The Ability to DO it

Where Stars Are Born

Situated in Vereeniging Gauteng, about 20km from Walkerville and an hours drive from Kyalami JHB.

Formerly known as “Twilight Stud”.

We changed the name of our stud to pay tribute to a very special mare Scarlet Stage. She was my “first” horse and there was no horse so noble and kind. She always gave answers to my often incorrect questions and patiently taught me how to ride.

Scarlet Hill Farm LogoScarlet Hill Farm LogoAt Scarlet Hill we aim to follow the KWPN (Royal Warmblood Studbook of the Netherlands) breed requirements in our horses: “... horses with international appeal. It is willing, fearless, physically and mentally strong, and bred to perform at the highest level. It is also reliable, easy to handle, and pleasing to the eye. Likewise, it aims to breed healthy horses that happily and easily do what is expected of them”.

We are a small hobby stud that strives to breed quality Warmbloods for all disciplines from proven imported and local bloodlines. Uncomplicated temperaments are essential in our horses, cooperative, keen, and honest. They are intelligent and have the will to perform. Easy to handle and responds quickly to aids. We breed for explosive power, a proud and elevated carriage, and a rock-steady rhythm and in some of our horses a lovely colored robe without compromising quality and ability.

We firmly believe that above average mares are of utmost importance as this can either make or break a foals future as a competition horse and therefore we have carefully hand selected a handful of mares for the breeding goals we have in mind. SHF strives to breed for Quality rather than Quantity. For this reason our youngsters are mostly kept to be produced under saddle before we decide to make them available for purchase.

Conformation wise our horses have a rectangular-shaped body that is long-lined and well-proportioned, uphill body build with long legs, light head-neck connection and a long, upwardly arching neck and a muscled topline,  strong and well-muscled back/ hindquarters, correct and clean legs and has presence.

In addition to our warmbloods and sport horses we are the first stud in SA to purposely cross Saddler mares to  Warmblood stallions to breed horses that possess everything both professional and amateur riders desire: a proud bearing and spectacular movement: a long moment of suspension in the trot; big striding front legs with high knee action; and hind legs that step powerfully under the body and a powerful uphill canter.
By crossing the saddlers with the warmbloods we create a horse that lowers its hindquarters by bringing its hind legs under its body, elevating its front end and making itself “big” . With this movement, the front legs are lifted high from the shoulder and extended far forward. The long moment of suspension, perfect balance, elevated front end, and good coordination between forehand and hindquarters create an unforgettable sight.
They are brave and bold with extravagant presence.  They are extremely versatile, intelligent and ridable and so make very good dressage horses and jumpers. So far we have 2 warmblood x saddler foals on the floor and both are exceptional.

We own the Imported SASHF Inspected and Licensed 17hh True Black KWPN son of Olympic Ferro; All Star Seto. Ferro needs no introduction and All Star carries the valuable blood of Royal Dance, Rohdiamant and Donnerhall on his his dams line.  All Star Seto is only available by frozen semen.  Youngsters at SHF training facility Youngsters at SHF training facility
